Once, Buddha was invited by a king, and welcomed grandly. The feast lasted until nightfall, and Buddha's path home fell dark. The king extravagantly placed torches along the entire path, but a single gale blew them all out. Despite this, one faint light still illuminated Buddha's path. It was one of a poor old man who couldn't prepare a gift, whose social status would not allow him to attend feast... It was a gift made from the bottom of the beggar's heart. It's true that admiration, and many desire are what make life interesting. But it is that once sincere deed that no one notices, which brings happiness to life.	ある時、覚者は王に招かれ、盛大にもてなされた。宴は夜まで続き、覚者の帰り道は闇に没していた。王は富にあかせて道という道に灯を置いたが、ただ一度の強風で王の用意した灯はすべて消え失せた。されど覚者の道はかすかな灯に照らされていた。それは宴に出られる身分ではなく、贈り物も用意できなかった貧しい老人が残した、心のこもった一つの灯りだったという。 ―――多くの称賛、多くの憧憬は、確かに人生を彩る華だろうが。誰に気づかれる事のない真心が一つあるだけで、己の人生は幸福だったと懐うのだ。
